Out with the 'IT' bags and in with the classics:

A few years ago there was such a huge hype and excitement about bags that were hot at that particular moment and designers such as Balenciaga's Nicholas Ghesquire, Gucci and Fendi created the amazing bags of those particular season but as time went by those bags started to fade into darkness and become outdated and that's when I learned one of my biggest fashion lessons that IT bags were like explosions, they blow up and leave ashes behind.
IT bags don't work well with every outfit, especially that chic Yves Saint Laurent inspired pantsuit you love and with a classic it would work wonders.

Designers and retailers are starting to create handbags that will be in a woman's wardobe for years and a bag that will stand the test of time. Fendi started a revolution in their Spring/Summer 2009 collection of women buying classic bags with their leather stitched bag which they reinvent each season which is absolutely incredible because you won't have to buy a handbag every season instead you can indulge in a gorgeous Aldo stiletto or an affordable one at Foschini or Woolworths. Nine West, Guess and Lorenzi are starting to follow that classic bags trend.

If money is not a problem invest in a brown and tan Louis Vuitton tote or follow one of my favourite fashion icons Victoria Beckham with a Hermes Birkin bag that will make your frenemies envious as you go to the V&A Waterfont with it in your hands, or you could simply buy a Nine West, Country Road or even Woolworths as long as it's not going to have an expiry date in terms of trends.

Girls I say buy a bag that you'll love forever instead of what is IN this season and OUT the next one.

CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEK: AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER!

Every year beautiful and fabulous fashionista's arrive at the Cape Town International Convention Centre to discuss the future of fashion and this season it wasn't any different. As the spotlight turned on beautiful clothes by South Africa's finest and up coming designers exuded on the runway leaving the crowd awed in their seats. The Kluk/CGDT duo was by far my favourite show this year and reminded me why I love and appreciate the art of fashion with their sheer dresses and swishy high waisted skirts that made my heart skip a beat. The production was absolutely AMAZING and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Another designer that blew me away was Ruff Tung designer Jean-Paul Botha who created amazing print one shoulder dresses and very well tailored high waisted shorts that made fashionista's jump off their seats. Very ruffled body conscious dresses and white angelic dresses as I call them flowed on the Ruff Tung runway leaving the audience amazed with their mouths wide open.

Menswear brand Viyella certainly didn't make us forget him with his very relaxed collection and earthy chic neutral tone colours they used this season. Their collection was inspired by a journey around Africa and in each city they visit is an inspiration to the clothes. Extremely well tailored tuxedo's and man bags that every man should have this coming spring season. What enchanted me more about the Viyella collection was the refinement of the clothes because men want to be relaxed as well as sophisticated.

FASHION IS SUPPOSE TO INSPIRE

I'ts been since we have seen musicians who make it a vital point to discuss fashion in their music. With Grace Jones being a musical and fashion icon now enters a genius as i call her who has attractred millions of fans and a lot of fashion magazines and designers such as the late Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh and the legendary Karl Lagerfeld.who we know as the head of thje Chanel Powerhouse.

A lot people look at the runway shows in contempt and awe as they look at fashion's FRENZY collections such as GIVENCHY, Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, Gareth Pugh and the list goes on.

As the flamboyant and fabulous Andre Leon Talley says ''fashion is suppose to inspire'' and millions of people are frightened about fashion which I feel should not and should never be the case.

Well there is something about fashion that can make people very nervous.

CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEK TO CREATE A BUZZ IN THE CITY

I know it's been a while but I'm back and very excited this week because Designers showcasing at the Cape Town Fashion Week are going to create anarchy.... in a good way as they reveal their Spring/Summer 2010/11 collections in the chic  Cape Town Convention Centre(CTICC). South African designers are making a very positive impact in the fashion industry and towards our economy and not forgetting the heatwave some of them are creating in New York when they are invited to showcase their collections.

Each year in August fashionista's and South African fashion royalty descend in the forever chic CTICC to discuss the future of South African fashion. Last year's was amazing especially the Stefania Morland show of which I was very late in attending but thank GOD I was allowed in.

I'm expecting fireworks as the fabulous and extremely talented designers blow us away in their amazing collections.
Anyway let me not saying anything more but I ABSOLUTELY hope they won't disappoint me and actually I know for a fact that we have the best and most talented designers in the world creating a buzz and bringing sophistication and cutting edge into our precious fashion industry.

Don't miss this year's Cape Town Fashion Week 12-14 August 2010
